On Aug. 30, 2015 I met with NYC model and photographer, Jessica Lavoie, for my debut author photo shoot.
Jessica and I have known each other since our mothers had us nine days apart. Here’s a really old Polaroid of us as evidence.
We went to school together until eighth grade when her family moved from Massachusetts to Missouri. As an adult, Jessica relocated to New York City and has spent well over a decade working as a model & photographer for clients including Lane Bryant, Avenue, Lord & Taylor, and Hanes. I was thrilled when she said she’d be available to take my author photos since she’d be back in Massachusetts to visit family.
She asked what “look” I was going for, and I said that I wanted to look professional, smart, happy, and approachable. For locations, we decided to use the historic center of Fairhaven, Massachusetts where I currently live. The Millicent Library had too many trees and shadows for even lighting, so we used the steps of the Fairhaven Town Hall.
Next, we went to Fort Phoenix beach and changed looks. This casual shot came out so nice that I’ve decided to use it for my blogging accounts.
Since my youngest daughter, Chloe, came to watch, Jessica took some pics of the two of us just for fun. (These aren’t in high resolution or photoshopped.)
Jessica made the whole experience fun and less stressful, and it was wonderful seeing her again after so many years.
